In 1981, the National Farm Medicine Center (NFMC) was established as a proactive response to farming patients seeking medical care for occupational health injuries and concerns. Designated as part of the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, NFMC has a dedicated focus on agriculture operations in rural populations. By applying high-quality research and education, health and safety can be improved in the agricultural sector, one of the most hazardous occupations in the United States. Scientists and research staff's expertise is utilized in creating practical inventions and strategies through public health, nursing, education, and communication to help prevent injuries and fatalities. National Farm Medicine Center also houses the editorial offices of the Journal of Agromedicine and is home to the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS).
